Excitement is building as the 2024 bay scallop season opens in the Fenholloway – Suwannee River Zone on June 15, extending through Labor Day (September 2). This zone encompasses all state waters in Dixie County, parts of Taylor County including Keaton Beach and Steinhatchee, and portions of Levy County.

This region includes all state waters east of Rock Island near the mouth of the Fenholloway River in Taylor County and north of Alligator Pass daybeacon #4 near the mouth of the Suwannee River in Levy County.

Key Regulations:

  • June 15 - June 30:

    • Daily Bag Limit: 1 gallon of whole bay scallops in the shell or 1 cup of shucked bay scallop meat per person.
    • Vessel Limit: Maximum of 5 gallons whole or 2 pints shucked.
  • July 1 - Labor Day:

    • Daily Bag Limit: 2 gallons of whole bay scallops in the shell or 1 pint of shucked bay scallop meat per person.
    • Vessel Limit: Maximum of 10 gallons whole or 1/2 gallon shucked.

Harvesting is only allowed by hand or using a dip net, and a Florida saltwater fishing license is required unless exempt.

  • When scalloping in open water, divers should stay within 300 feet of a correctly displayed divers-down flag or within 100 feet of a divers-down flag if on a river, inlet or navigation channel.
  • Always operate your boat at idle speed when traveling within 300 feet of a divers-down flag in open water or within 100 feet of a divers-down flag on a river, inlet or navigational channel.
